Freedom and restraint depend on each other. Restraint can only be present when one is free to act in a selection of competing ways, yet still chooses the nicest and most decent choice at the time. Restricting freedom does not create accountability. All it does is avoid the issue.
The problem is not sovereignty, the problem is not technology, the problem is not all of those other things adults like to identify as the root cause of the problem whenever quoting testimonials about how ill-behaved adolescence these days are.
The problem is that parents spend too much time handling their children as possessions to be commanded around, and too little time when young helping them mature the compassion and sympathy to want to act correctly, when given the freedom to do so.
