Antivirus has become THE essential component of a PC these days (you don’t even have to think about it if you have a MAC or a Linux powered computer). For over a decade, we people have been frightened and threatened by the big antivirus companies with virus maps showing almost all the computers throughout the world to be infected by some sort of virus.
Antivirus companies like McAfee and Norton are well known for the part they play in slowing down the system and stalling work time and again. Whoever has worked for these major antivirus companies know and do one thing without fail; avoiding buying these anti virus products! (confession from someone who worked for one of them :0) )
Times have changed and a recent survey shows that over 70% of the world’s population are interested in free antivirus programs than the paid ones. So the futures of outrageously charging antivirus companies like McAfee, Norton and Kaspersky are definitely doomed.
What about the free ones? And what’s the best one among them?
I’m writing this article only because I have personally experienced the performances of the top three free antivirus software for PC; avira, AVG and Microsoft security essentials. And the reason for me to think that Microsoft security essentials is the best antivirus are listed below.
Microsoft Security Essentials is surprisingly slick when compared to AVG and Avira. I barely noticed it during the download and did not encounter even a single weird notification during installation. The file size of the antivirus is comparatively smaller than AVG and Avira.
On right click, the only option I get is “open†and not some 100 items to confuse me and frustrate me. And when you open the Microsoft Security Essentials Interface, everything is straight forward. No dangerous sign or ‘click the button to fix the error’ things.
The performance of Microsoft Security Essentials is nothing lesser when compared to AVG and Avira. Infact, the antivirus program found more malware than Avira and AVG free edition.
It did not slow my internet speed like AVG did, nor did stop my .EXE files without notification as Avira did. You will see no difference in your browsing speed before and after the installation of Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus.
No bugging you to buy the paid version like Avira does and no listing of the long and boring paid features as AVG does. It protects your computer, that’s it.
It’s from Microsoft, so the possibilities for the antivirus to understand the PC is more when compared to AVG and Avira.
I hope I have given you the reasons in black and white. Its time for you to give Microsoft Security Essentials a try I guess.
