Tenure question

I thought you only received tenure for having gold. My friend wanted an account with all challenges for mw2, and I remembered this one and gave him the email and pass for it and once he recovered it it had a 1 year tenure. It had a 1 month trial on it and that was all, after I got it 10th on mw2 I never touched it again. Is this a freak accident, or is it normal? I'm very curious on this one.
 
Originally thats how it worked, the tenure would be the amount of time you gold on it, but they changed it to however long you had the account is your tenure.
 
Its pretty nice imo, I have a lot of old accounts with 2-3 years. AS long as the account had gold it will have a tenure.

you sure? i have had my xbl account since 2005 and i only have a 3 year tenure on it
 
I have a xbox account that was made in 2007 but no tenure...Can i mod it to 5 years???

you can risk getting perm banned lol i wouldnt mod it
