Tablets, Phones, and Nexus, oh my!

Well, it's my birthday. Been pretty good so far, been saving up some cash I've got and I'm actually looking to purchase some things. I currently use a laptop for all of my online needs. I don't really do much gaming on it, it's nothing special, I just browse some sites, listen to music, the usual. I currently have $230, and in about 2 weeks that'll go up to $350. I've never had a phone before and I'd like to get one, but on the other hand I'd also like to get a tablet as my brother recently purchased the Google Nexus 7 and it's awesome. At the moment, I'm deciding on two purchases - Google Nexus 7 (android tablet) + cheaper phone, or just the Nexus 5 (android phone). What do you guys think? Also feel free to suggest other tablets or phones, I'm not too big into knowledge of them so I'd love some informative opinions.

Bought a nexus 5 about a week ago.. Phone is awesome, money well spent.. I would definately suggest that.
