Just a suggestion, it might help or not.

Maybe only letting post a status like 3 times a day.
Don't know.
 
I think get rid of it.. Or make it so you can add comments, which would be used as posts, and create a section 'statuses' only if you get me? :3

Make it more random than the lobby I guess? :3
 
i'd say have a box like fb so its easlier to post a status, and be able to comment status, but should not add to post count.
 
Or just call it what it really is and make it so the shoutbox auto updates.....
