Someone explain licence transfers?

So I just got a Xbox and need help.
I found where you you would go for a lt but I can't quite grasp the meaning.

Is a licence transfer just being able to download games a account has purchased already?

Is there any cb risk?

You transfer the license for the games onto your console and you can get banned since it counts as "marketplace theft" but people rarely get banned for that.

You sign onto someone else's account who bought the desired good. Then you basically go to their download history and it should show that they downloaded it, then you "re-download" it onto your hard drive and you have basically copied their download to your hard drive.

License transfer is allowing all profiles on a console to use an item obtained on another profile while it was on a different console.

If you want an in depth explanation. Basically, when an item is purchased or redeemed from the marketplace, that item is then assigned an ID that is linked to your Gamertag and this is basically your record of purchases and if you ever lose that content, you can simply redownload it and because you purchased it and the ID is on your Gamertag, you have all rights to download/use it.

License transfer was a method developed by Microsoft in a bid for people who lived with others or to share content with your other accounts, if you login with your friends account and license transfer, his ID for the content he purchased is basically assigned to your console and you can now use his items/games. There is a limit to License Transferring and can only be done once every 6 or 9 months.

It's every 3 months, but other than that.. this is spot on.

There are ways to LT whenever you want, but that's bad.
