Simple VPS Question

Okay so my friends and I are planning to make a server we have been hosting live (minecraft). And we are debating on letting a Minecraft Server hoster make a pre set one for us. Or to just actually buy a VPS and start it from scratch <--- will be harder and take longer. Thoughts?

OP, a vps is not very hard to set up, (get a linux one! ) and it just requires a small amount of patience and then you're all set
 
I know how to setup a VPS, I am asking if I should be buying a pre-set one for minecraft or a plain VPS.
 
DO NOT get a managed server.

Setting up VPS is this easy...

login to the vps
wget whatevertheshityouwant
java -Xms|ram| -Xmx|ram| -jar whatever.jar nogui

Yay!
