Should Social Networking Sites Be Banned In Offices and Colleges?

There are 1000s of social networking websites around. I personally know at least 20 persons who spend most of their online time making friends and connecting with people around the world. Some use social networking sites for professional reasons while most use them to make friends.

I've seen many companies banning access to social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Hi5 & others. What is your take on this?

Do you think social networking sites should be freely allowed in offices & colleges? Or should they be banned?

What I would suggest is keep the access to such sites open during the lunch time or break time. that way, it wont affect the productivity of the staff.

yes they should absolutely be banned in colleges and offices.these sites are more prone for distracting.and obviously distraction is not the first thing required in colleges and office.if the authorities want focused people, they should certainly ban these sites.

I think so especially facebook because as I noticed that there are employee especially those who are in charge with the computer they are busy playing on farmville, I am not judging but I saw few of them. I visited an airline booking office, one of the employee is very irritated to attend the costumers question, knowingly she is busy playing with farm ville an apps on face book. I am not saying that all of them are the same but some social networking site are very tempting and irresistible to open everyday.

well it is good for communicating but this can be done by other devices in colleges it should be banned & in offices there may be few employees who uses facebook without doing there work it is better to ban.

I don't see why they should be banned, they are different methods of communications.

I think social networking and other sites should be banned during office hours because employees are less productive with their work. Instead of concentrating with serving other people they are busy having their own personal business and it's not good. They are paid to do their job and not to waste time in front of a computer socializing or playing games. They can very well return to socializing at home.

Using the social networks has been banned here in my place because it is not right to make use of office's properties other that work related activities. It is not a means of suppressing one's right since one is paid to work in offices and study in inside a school and not to do any social networking in the net. One can do it anytime he chooses but not inside his office or school.

While in work, employees should do their jobs and not opening their Facebook accounts since they are being paid to do their jobs. I agree that this should be banned in offices. Actually, it's already being implemented here in most offices in my country. In school, the students can't study and check their Facebook at the same time while in school so, that won't be a problem.

As long the productivity issues, It should be banned. As long the employee works perfectly. They should be rewarded by using SNS. As for the colleges, it shouldn't be banned because the Network connection that the students use is included in their tuition fees. So they have a freewill to use it.

it should not be banned but the offices and some colleges should implement rules of restricting the use of social networking during office hours and during classes.

social network site should be banned during office hours to prevent people from leaving job and bcom buzy in social sites and shud b allowed during breaktime.

It really depends on the school/college if they want to ban social networking sites for students, honestly social networking sites in our college are ban, but we can still open the websites tru proxies LOL

Well i think it depends because sometimes having a social network is a good thing to know what is happening around you. For example there is an earthquake so what people do is they post it on their social network site so other people will also know it. But i think it should on every college and high school.

In my opinion , those social networking sites must not be banned because it can be used as a main medium to deliver message among colleagues and we also can communicate easy with them . That is my opinion , maybe they should make it more strict when they are using Facebook , so they wont be online for the whole day.

Social Network is a very informative site to everyone but in terms of usage to any organization like school and colleges would depends on the users discipline.

It's only a matter of restrictions to such site specially to school where students and colleagues may connect to such sites anytime and in a longer span of time.

No there no need it in offices or college's.in my college it's our main time conserveting thing,we like it very much,and i hope it does not effect in our studies or affecting in any ones offices life,without doing proper work no one is going to stay much in any jobs,this people are mainly using its to contacting other company officals in cheap ways and they are not much interested in chatting with local peoples.

hi good day, i have both twitter and facebook account , there are companies also they banned the facebook on their offices because maybe they would think that their employee would play in facebook and cannot do their job well.

I think the socail networking websites are good for communication between offices in the institute, however there should some check and balance system to see all this.
