I was actually leaning toward one of those Inspiron 17 5000's

Well since you're buying a laptop in 2015 instead of 2008 like me, you have a TON of options when it comes to a sturdy, speedy, and reliable machine, here are a few that I really would recommend you to get.

HP - Great machine, has a nice, and new i5 5200U with Intel HD Graphics 550 which will do light gaming if that's even what you want it for, but also it has 6GB of ram which is pretty standard in that price point, and on top of that it has a standard 750GB HDD, this would be a choice laptop if you're wanting to download a variety of things.....

Lenovo - Now this laptop would be more tuned for a gamer due to the A8 APU, which isn't bad, but it does have 8GB of ram, which will get multi-tasking done, and it has a slightly smaller HDD, 500 GB to be exact. However keep in mind, the i5 is a newer CPU, which will obviously perform better, but this isn't a bad machine.

Also that dell isn't bad, but I'd get the HP over it. Hope this helped you out just a bit @Emp
