Rant on "Rep whoring"

One thing i really REALLY dislike about this site (and probably the only thing i dislike now thinking about it) is the immature 12 year olds who think rep means something when they repwhore for it. Well let me tell you something, in the days before the majority of you newbies joined their was no such thing as "repwhoring", people like you and i were repped based on helping out the community, writing hq threads, doing legit deals in the marketplace etc. and now, all you have to do is get rep is upgrade, make a "I just upgraded thread" (Basically a rep 4 rep thread nowadays) and rep people with some stupid reason such as "Nice name, i like yours do you like mine?" or "Very HQ member" and you will see the same person rep for the same reason and rep about 15 times a day for someone being "hq" even though their are alot of hq members on this site that aren't repped because they can't rep back due to not being upgraded.

Before Philly re-implemented the "leaderboards" plug in on the homepage HQ veterans had around 500 rep, and now that it is reimplemented people have 800, 900, even 1000 rep; this is very annoying.

Being upgraded here is a gateway to rep. Remember the disrespectful sad 14 year old (Yes he was 14 years old) known as "Bomb"? You know, that guy with Courage the Cowardly Dog as his avi who would go and flame people for no reason including him flaming "Got Milk?"'s threads but once he upgraded all the people who neg repped him for being a "Low quality flaming piece of fegot shit" +'d him because they are too afraid of having a little red on their profiles.

If i wanted I could make a new account, buy the upgrades, rep about 30 members and would have around 250 rep by the end of the night. Please, stop this shit because when you have repped 100 members (Yes we can now tell) and you have around 1000 rep it looks ugly on your profile. Now if you have only repped 50 people and have 1000 rep that looks gorgeous because the given to gained ratio of rep.

This leads me to my next sub-rant, the people who try to rep4rep by repping you, and when you don't rep back they remove their rep they gave you. This pisses me off so much i can't even fathom how much this makes me angry. I get a average of 2 random +'s a day and the majority of the time when i don't rep them back (I barely give out rep) they remove their rep on me. If you don't get a rep back and you remove your rep you gave someone, that's childish and you really need to leave this site. Rep for repping is on lots of other sites, but it's mostly here.

Please stop rep4repping as it's VERY VERY VERY annoying and makes this site look very lq.

This grinds my gears as well man. Or when someone reps you then you disagree on something ( No flame ). and they remove the rep they gave you.

I totally agree with you and all your points stated. I always get repped by randoms and they always delete it when I don't rep back. It's so annoying.

Reputation is only genuine when it's not given out all time. It shouldn't be given as often as it is these days. Idk.

People youstu compete for post count way back in the day and this forum was filled with paragraph long hq responses and now it's the opposite. Ahh the golden days.

There's a trend I've noticed throughout my time on the internet; the quality of a forum is inversely proportional to the quantity of users on the forum.

You joined a month ago, clearly you haven't seen my threads. Maybe you should go take a look at my "extra terrestrial life" thread kiddo. Practice what you preach child, i've never met or seen you on this site in my life and you're already saying i'm not HQ LOL.

Well I agree, I rarely see some members post, they joined less than 3 months ago, and their rep is through the roof. I don't really go off of rep either, but I suggest people do rep with reason.

Now, on topic, I completely agree with this. You brought back the rainbow, maybe you'll stop this. I think it's actually quite funny to look at the reps given for some people and to see people remove their rep because you don't give it back.

I agree with you Shadow. Back in the day I was a slight rep whore but when I started becoming HQ I didn't care about rep. Before the reset I reached 1,000 rep. I was proud of it but it really didn't mean anything. I even got on the leaderboard. But in reality I didn't earn it. So after the reset I got online and I was bombed with +rep. Of course I repped back but I don't give out rep anymore unless I believe the user deserves it. I give out more negative rep than positive rep. I do agree with you on the fact that so many users rep whore and that all it takes is a simple upgrade to get tons of rep. Though rep doesn't mean anything anymore. I remember the old days where rep ACTUALLY meant something. But it's too late now.

I do think it would be reasonable for Philly to limit the amount of rep you may give out every certain number of hours. I believe that would really avoid all of these "rep whores" from giving out a bunch of rep. It woul also decrease the amount of users with tons of rep just from giving it out.

As for my rep, I earned it legit. I used to sit on my laptop and give out shitloads of rep. Now I don't even give out positive rep. It's not worth anything.

So I respect you for making this thread Shadow. You have brought up a huge problem with FK and it needs to be fixed.

Hopefully if I become staff one day I will be able to do something about this.

To all you rep whores, stop. It's not worth it.
 

I remember when i had 1690 rep back in the day omg LOL ahh the days.

Anyways, yes it is a disease that needs to be cured but each person needs to be cured differently, you canny and i have been cured long ago but some are still suffering :'(

That is not true, for about a year now this has been going on. Just don't pay attention to rep and only give it out if you think someone really deserves it. The less rep everyone has the more valuable it is.
