So yesterday I decided to quit smoking. It has been a tough day so far but I'm getting through it. A few weeks ago my mother told me she would pay me $500 to fully quit smoking. I kept smoking after that. I just recently decided to quit because I really need to. My mom was a smoker for many years in the past so whenever I would smoke she would buy a pack and smoke too. She is in her 50's and I'm 18. She really can't be smoking at all. Both of my grandfathers died of lung cancer so we are in danger of having the same happen.

Anyways, I quit also because I didn't have any money to buy cigarettes. But I went to Gamestop and sold 2 games and got like $40 and I didn't buy a pack. I am very proud of myself for doing this.

I can't believe that it has been a year since I started and now I am quitting. I am very confident that I will quit. Not for the $500 but for my mom and myself.

If you guys have any tips please let me know.

Proud of you man, it's hard...I just yesterday said I'd quit, but look at me today, got a brand new pack of reds. It's such a waste of money, I've put so much hard earned cash into this horrible habit, mad respect for you for quitting, at least attempting to.

My tips for you is just to have the support system, have family and friends who care about you keep you going, that's probably the best tip I can give.

As for other "conventional" tips, try another "habit" or instead of smoking and chilling with your friends, maybe just drink a few beers or something, find a replacement.

Hope you stay sober from this for a really long time!

Good on you man, definitely a difficult thing to do but you will pull through and be smoke free soon. The important thing is to keep your hands busy, some people just hold a pencil and twirl it around in your fingers to get your mind off of holding a smoke. Another idea to get rid of urges is to try those eCigs that you can buy in gas stations. They are pure vapor, no smoke, and work well to fight the craving/urge you'll feel.

Thanks Terror. I am currently using my e-cig. It is helping out a lot. I am also using the Nicorette gum and that helps a lot too.
 
Sorry for commenting off-topic, but you actually got more than $20 for trade-in games at GameStop? :O
 
Just stack up on gum man. That's really one of the best ways.
 
I'm proud of you mate. One of the hardest decisions someone has to face is basically quitting cigarettes. Remember to avoid other triggers, such as alcohol. Also eat a lot of fruit & vegetables, and stay active! Managing your stress can also be a great way to quit. I also believe this photo can help motivate you, I've kept it for a long time and it has helped others feel motivated & better!
