Backing off on its earlier assurance that the PlayStation Network would be back online by yesterday, Sony announced that the return has been delayed indefinitely.

Following a security breach where hackers managed to steal personal and (not encrypted properly) financial details about 77 million PSN and Qriocity users, Sony took the whole service offline on April 25th and promised to secure and re-launch it within a week from April 30.

Last Thursday, Sony Computer Entertainment America confirmed that it was in the final stages of testing the newly secured system, but on the same day a Sony spokeswoman told Reuters that relaunching within the promised timeframe wouldn’t be possible.

“When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week,” SCEA senior director of corporate communications Patrick Seybold said. “We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system.”

“Additional comprehensive system checks and testing are still required,” he added. “And we must complete that process before bringing the systems online.”

Sony goofed up bad, this shit is ruining their reputation and their profits for 2011. I think it'll be a 18-24 months before they can possibly get back to the level they were at.

That's what a few people mentioned on forums a while ago, then someone pointed out that PSN isn't even they're largest income, it's only a fraction (A high fraction but under half).
They still sell all sorts of electrical equipment, their online network is still making plenty of money, games are still being purchased along with consoles, they'll be fine, it's a set back, yes, but nothing which will mess the company in the long run.

Now they stated that the PS3 is having testing done all over the world with the PSN.

Hopefully it comes out this week or maybe even this weekend.
