Even though over summer I will be learning Java, I still want to have a go at this. As most of you know, I race, and with racing your require to be timed. Timing software can be very expensive, with only 1 next to feature less system being free and the other costing upto £800 with thousands of clubs using such software round the world. Seeing as there is money to be made in this type of software im going to try and work on something similar. Its gonna take one hell of a lot of time, but once its done and working it should be great.

I know someone who races with me and hes just about to finish a software engineering course (the same one I am about to do in October) and im hoping to partner up with him.

Hes something I quickly made to see what features in Visual Studio I could use, and how I could go about some sort of making some sort of stopwatch as there is no direct feature or code in visual basic that allows it.

Heres something I quickly made about 2 minutes ago.

why dont you get a laser with a mirror at the start/finish line with a sencor thats all linked to USB port on a laptop and when the race starts the cars break the laser beam so it starts the stop watch and when they come round and break it again it stops and then a new stop watch starts depending on how many laps you want to do. sound good?
 
The thing is how do you count multiple cars. And I basically made this for my GCSE System and Control project, but I had to call it a Lap Counter and Timer as it was for use with one car.

They use digital transponders used in motorsport, but the software is purely independant, which is what I am trying to make, not the hardware.
 
Seems pretty Cool.
I think you should try to make a Dual Screen program.
There is not really any on the market.
Something like Ultra-Mon.
 
bleepy maybe you could have like a signal trap and fit a smal transmiter in each car and set all the cars up with difrent signals so that when they go past the line it sets a lap time for each car and that way as well you have an easyer way of telling who comes first and all

Like I said the hardware side of things is sorted, im just making the software.

i know i just thought i would share the only great idea i had that day lol
 
Ok, just that every racer in the world uses the transponder system so to try and create some new more efficient system would be very hard to publicize.

Someone used InfraRed transmitters on cars, which pulsed their car number when they past a reciever. The idea was so simple and effective, but because so many clubs and race tracks use software already made for the transponder system, nobody was interested.

Well ive recently made a fair amount of progress with this, when I should have been revising, but I got bored.

Ive now got start sequences, Formula1 start light system, Lap Times, Split Times, Lap Counts, Start Delays and more.
 
yer well you can hijack the transponder system then cant you lol
 
Yer thats what I plan to do. But when I get near completion im gonna have to have a look at the decoders and see how to works so I can set it up the software so that the laptimes start when the decoder sends the signal.
 
yer do you have to buy the transmiter your self or does the club lend them?

yes definatly sell it but at a much lower price than all the others and also you can maybe give you club a trial so that you can test it out properly and also it will advertise it
 
Yer like a promotion. Still got alot of work todo. Only got one window thats about 10% complete out of about 5 or 6 differnet windows. Also have to work out how to create result pages for printing etc, and how to create HTML Results, Result Graphs and more.
