Problem w/ Astros

Ok so I just got an HDMI cable today and when I hooked it up it worked fine except for I couldn't hear the sound through my astros anymore. I asked my friend why and he said you have to have an optical cable which makes sense I guess. Problem is I have the original white xbox 360 and and I dont think it has a place for the optical cable to plug in, so what do I do?
