My thoughts on Colors

As I said before, in this thread, I believe colors are subjective.

Honestly, I believe pretty much everything is subjective, but I'll stick with colors this time.

We are all taught about colors at an early age, those of us who can see at least.

We learn about them, and most stuff, by relating and image/sound/sensation/etc with that we are being taught of. Colors are not an exception.

We're told "the sky is blue". We obviously need to know what the sky is if we're being taught what blue looks like, and lets say the sky was perfectly clear and blue at the moment.

After that we relate blue, with the color of the sky.

The thing is, maybe what's blue for the "teacher", is yellow for the "student". In actual perception terms, but we relate the word blue with the sky, therefore we think we are seeing the same thing, the same color.

Everybody is taught the blue they see, is blue. And then they teach others about it. But it doesn't necessarily need to look the same for them.

Let's say the teacher sees:
BLUE

And the student sees:
BLUE

Both colors are blue for the teacher, and the student. Because colors are represented by mere words.

Wow, you made me think now.
Sorry if I do not express myself correctly, my main language isn't English.

It is true that when we use writing, everything is just words. You are absolutely correct. But remember that not only happens with the colors. The concepts may be different. . But and those things that we only know the taste or smell?

How we know that the taste is sweet? We only know that because someone told use the concept of SWEET. And salty? We only that because someone told use the concept of SALTY
Everything is subjective in the world. We are subjective..

Yes, it's simple logic. We put named all things on the world to understand our speak.

It's a theory, but not one I believe in. Thanks to adjectives we can actually prove we see the colors as the same. Unless you question adjectives such as "light", "dark" and "peaceful" etc. Also, with our technology, cameras/video cameras can sort of prove the color. Again, unless you think we still see what we're used to seeing through a camera, but that's impossible. I may of confused you slightly, but the theory you believe is only a living theory because we can't see through another persons eyes.

Yeah, I said it was applied to everything, but I would be focusing in colors.

Adjectives are still words given to represent something, therefore, we are told of something is "specific adjective" and we believe it. Just like colors.

How do cameras prove color? That really was confusing.

Yes indeed, it´s a theory that can´t be proved. FOR NOW.

Cameras aren't relative. It's hard to explain without turning this into a science thread so I won't go into it. Yes adjectives are there to represent something, but there's no debate on light/dark like similar to your theory about colors, or the theory you agree with I should say. If you have an adjective which is certain to be a specific thing, instead of being based on opinions and unproven facts, then you can sort of prove that colors are the same to everyone.

That was very simplified.

The thing is, maybe what's blue for the "teacher", is yellow for the "student". In actual perception terms, but we relate the word blue with the sky, therefore we think we are seeing the same thing, the same color.

I really don't understand how you get that.

The sky is blue, unless someone has a abnormal eye, it will always appear blue.
Blue is roughly 440–490 nm. It will always be "Blue".

But then I guess, what is 440 and 490? If everything is subjective, we would never be able to communicate.

The perception of people is different for each person. It's how it works.
But if the Student sees Blue the teacher will see Blue.
So it doesn't make any difference at all.

But it makes you think.

Just like how sounds that we call "words" actually mean something to us. I don't understand why people get upset when I say "Fuck You". So materialistic..
