My Outlook On The Baltimore Riots

The situation in Baltimore incredibly annoys me. Rioting, and looting never gets anyone anywhere. I understand the decades of frustration. I understand the anger towards recent events. I understand everyone’s reason for rioting, but it’s useless. It’s immature. It’s nonsensical.

For every bad apple in the bunch, there are a thousand who are doing their job. And I absolutely agree, those bad apples get special treatment by the system. I absolutely agree, those bad apples must be held more accountable for their actions. But rioting and looting gets you nowhere.

Have we forgotten the Selma to Montgomery marches? Have we forgotten the March on Washington? Have we forgotten the Million Man March? Have we forgotten the Poor People’s March?

You want to cause change? Stop validating the media’s image of you. Stop validating America’s image of you. Stop validating your stereotypes. Organize yourselves. Determine specific goals and changes you want to see. Lead by example.

Two thousand people marching together for twenty miles will still get nationwide coverage. Ten thousand people standing in silence at the state’s courthouse will still make the daily news papers across the country. Fifty thousand people united under the same goal, with no violence will still get their voices heard.

If you riot, if you loot, police will arrest you. They will tackle you. They will shoot rubber bullets at you. They will hit your thighs with batons until you surrender and let the cold handcuffs around your wrists. They will shoot tear gas canisters at your crowds. They will instill curfews. They will spray you with pepper spray. That’s what they have been hired to do. You are a cancer to society when you loot, you are a threat, and it’s the police’s job to neutralize that threat. It is their job to protect other’s property. And they will do their job. And at the end of the day, you won’t be a single step closer to seeing change.

I understand rioting, but I condemn them. I see the validity in rioting, but I fail to see progress it brings.

Protest, don’t riot. Don’t be an imbecile; you just embarrass everyone that truly wants change.

Many of them are uneducated and just looking for an excuse to be an idiot. A lot of them don't have much for themselves, so it satisfies them to take from others. Innocent until proven guilty isn't in their consciences.
