My cat...

Okay, I got a cat which is almost 3 years old.

My sister found him when he was a kid and he was dying, so we decided to take care of him.

Now, he is starting to want to go outside, at the moment we are at our summerhouse, which is a place with free nature, no traffic and they got an awesome world to play in. But, my parents wont let him out at all. I say, let him out a little bit, and then increase while following him. They say "He will run away", but I still think he wouldn't.

I have let him out a couple of times, and he went around outside and checking the place out. He always get mad on the way in, does that mean he likes being outside? He always looks outside from windows when we are home, and we let him out in our Garden which he handled fine.

Edit: I let him out once, but he was like 4 months or so, and we was stupid. While he was out we forgot him and he ran away. But he did come back, sadly, that took 2.5 months.


What my mate said:
I have a cat also, and had another one in the past (As you probably know).
My current cat is dieing to go outside, however my family or I will not give him this option.
When my big sister found him, he was dieing and we won't let this happen again, after we known
what has happend to our first cat. Cats aren't suppose to be pets, they have natural feelings and
one time, when you will take him out, he'll run and leave you alone :\. I personaly would not suggest
you to take the cat out, but after all it's your decision.

I'd just keep him inside with you for a couple of weeks then let him out, personally I'd let him out but make sure he doesn't go far/out of reach.

That's what I did. I stalked him when we went out. He loved it, he always scratches me when I take him in.

Well as the OP reads; you found him, did you not?

He might not be scratching you because you're taking him inside, it might be because of the previous events that happened, cats usually never forget. My cat was the same but he's tamed down a bit now, due to me being a super cat know it all lover.

True, he might have been threw outside by someone, as when we found him (He was like a month old), he already could go on the toilet, the day we took him in.

Exactly, just treat him like you would treat yourself; or if you don't treat yourself very well treat him with lots of love, you need to build his faith in us humans again :3

Well, I would let myself out. As I trust him, but my parents clearly don't. They wont let him out .

Well, as I can't actually see the environment you're letting him into, I can't say if it'll be good or not for him to be let out or not. Keep him in for a few weeks.

Well... we got a pretty big garden, it's a big place and our older cat (He is 18), he ran around here when he was younger and still does.

Your older cat is 18? That's extremely old, I only know one person who has had a cat older than my old one, which passed away (21 years).

Well is there anyway he can get out? Example; fence low, low trees etc.

Yeah, it's an open place. He can just walk out, which is a minus. But I figured, if I follow him while he is out, it shouldn't hurt ?

He is defiantly better off in a home with you. As well as pick him up if he does, maybe try to play with him also.

Well, he did come back that last time. But the problem was, we was leaving that day, school and jobs the next day. So we couldn't wait for him.

Is there any place he can stay while you're out such as a conservatory with a cat flap or anything?
It's what I have with like chairs and whatnot in it so he can come in and just lay/sleep until I come in and let him back in ^-^

Chips aren't actually "trackers", if that's what you are thinking of.

Chips are only useful if someone else finds the cat/animal, takes it to a vet/cat protection centre and then they scan the chip to receive the owners address etc.

He got a chip if you mean the thing about the marking in the ear.

A chip is basically something a vet scans, the chip has the cats; name, age, breed and it's owners name, address and phone numbers. It's not traceable as such though.
