Motivation+ education?

Wow... Great news, my brother is a scientist + doctor. He just recently traveled to another country to give a speech + presentation on the research he's done for the cure of cancer. He hadn't even received 1/2 of the results he sent to be tested and his presentation was #1 in the world. This and the PHD he's currently studying for have made me consider, how the fuck do I compete with this?

My brother is 12 years older than me, but to achieve such high standards, I don't think I'm capable of such things. I don't have the motivation for it. He explained to me how he had always taken an interest in Science and everything else he studied. But the only thing I seem to be taking an interest in is gaming + football. The odds of me becoming one of those "MLG's" or A.F.L players aren't exactly in my favor. To be able to dedicate my time to A.F.L to get an advantage over others that could potentially give me the opportunity of making A.F.L would result in a lack of education...but if I don't get selected for A.F.L (hypothetically) then where's my backup.

I don't know, I'm just extremely anxious for my career + future.
Anyway, I'm sure if you've actually read this far, you'd have a possible solution to this?

A lot of AFL players don't rely on that as a sole source of income. Stay in school, and if you still want to be a footballer, go train full-time afterwards, and perhaps look at getting a degree in something on the side.

Just because your brother's made it big doesn't mean you have to follow in his footsteps. Find something you like, and stick to it.

You're what, 14? You have plenty of time ahead of you.
Enjoy gaming while it lasts.

Do what you love doing. Don't listen to people who put you down or say your dreams are stupid. Just do what ever makes you happy in life.


Most AFL player still study.

I assure you, that there is no need to be stressed out. You are 14, not 18-20 trying to figure out what to do with your life (college or not, what major, etc). When you are older video games will seem less important and you probably won't even have that much time for them. I am 20, I do still love video games but I really can't find the time for them right now. I am almost never on my xbox 360 anymore, I haven't been on my ps3 in I don't even know how long, and as for Runescape I don't really do much except log in for 5 minutes every now and then. Right now I am just too busy with college. I am majoring in electrical engineering and I would like to get my masters in computer engineering. You may be wondering how I spend so much time on the forums. My phone helps me with this and also the forums don't require my constant attention like a video game does. I can read something real quick, post something, and then get back to my homework or studying.

Plus in all honesty, you have nothing to be worried about. It isn't a competition. You will find what you like and figure out what you want to do with your life. And like fes said, you can always do something like programming if you want to do something with video games. You could major in computer engineering and work for a company like Blizzard as a game designer. Just an example, but please don't stress out over something that you really shouldn't be stressing out over.
