Hello RuneGear,

The reason I am writing this post is due to a recent incident regarding a name change.

Just to clarify, if you change your name on the forum you completely lose all rights of your last username. This means anyone can take your past username and that is allowed, you will have to bring up the issue with the user that has taken your past username if you wish to regain it.

Also, this policy does not apply to staff and if someone is caught impersonating staff, or switching username to an old member of Staff's username appropriate action will be taken.

Should not have changed Pichu's username back, doesn't really deserve it. Many members have had their "identity" taken on the forum, and they and others don't really care. It's a username, shouldn't be taken so seriously.

Quick question from the audience;

Lets say we have a contest and the winners are to PM staff to claim their prize. What would happen if lets say someone who has won, changed their name and another member took their previous alias and tried to impersonate them via PM?

How about username changing is disabled for users, and they have to post a username change request in a thread,
and obviously then you can see if someone is trying to impersonate someone else.

And to prevent abuse and time wasting, they have to gain another 150 posts before they can request another name change.

If it does become an issue, then we may be able to develop a 30 day cool down for previous usernames, while only being able to change once every 20 days or so.

Also @"Jonathan" we can't do that because they paid for the permission.

Seem's like a good new rule, but as Michael said they shouldn't really be taken as seriously.

Chris, they still have the ability to do so. They just have to make X amount of posts first.

They have this on another forum I'm on and it works really well.

I did not care...
I changed my name first.He can do whatever he wants.
I meant "Martian has changed his username to another members name again."
Like how he changed his name to ironhide.
I was not complaining.Its a status...
Either way,i added the tm to my name to allow Martian to get the name he had previously.

I don't see an issue with others taking your previous name.
If you cared about it so much, why change your display name in the first place?
Anyway, just my opinion.

Fair rule, it causes a lot of drama when people do it. Although people should be smarter then that.

Why did you take the username when you probably knew it would annoy others as the person has only just changed their name.

Guys don't start drama. WHo cares, he can use the name cause the original Pichu was using something else. So right now it would be "AaronTheGreat" imposing him.

My opinion, changing you username to one that someone had before is just stupid.
It only confuses many people (who is who), and shows that you basically want to be like that person or that you lack imagination.
