So I just used the software manager on Ubuntu to install KeePassX.

Not sure what's happened, I tried to uninstall and reinstall, that didn't make a difference though.

Try following these steps.

Your installation of ubuntu is probably missing some fonts and is substituting them with Wingdings.

Fixed, it was because I changed a font.
