Linux Backtrack 5 code name 'Revolution' is in my opinion a wonderful OS.
It is a pen testing variant of Ubuntu.
It has tons of great tools that are relatively easy to use.
You can run Windows programs via the Wine application.
It is free, and you can run it 'Live' straight from a flash drive.
