It's Better To Remain Silent If You Have Nothing Good To Say

My late father used to fetch me this when I was only an Elementary student. And now as an adult, I can clearly relate and reflect to this saying because it's really true. Saying or blabbing anything negative about someone or to other people you know is definitely not a good manner especially if that person have not done anything bad to you. Moreover, it doesn't really cultivate anything good.

How about you, can you relate to this saying? to what circumstance? Do you observe or practice proper etiquette such as this?

Share what you have there..God Bless!

I was taught " If you can't say something good, don't say any thing at all." I guess that is a good practice.
You have to careful who you say something to for they will probably tell.

I totally agree with that saying. Saying something that is not good can cause you trouble. Just like the saying "To save one's face is to keep it's lower part shut."

Actually, I can't agree 100 percent. There are times when you need to shut your mouth when you don't have any good thing to say but there also times when you need to say something if you think the person concerned needs to know the truth no matter how much it hurts.

There are times when people can be very talkative and talk about nonsense. In my place of work, it is my rule of thumb to keep one's mouth shut if he has nothing good to say. I am easily disturb by nonsense talking and the flow of transmission of knowledge is often disturbed and violated by this unethical trait. Telling people to keep their mouth shut on the other hand is not violating their rights but simply encouraging them to respect others and practice good conduct.
