This is a super duper weird thread (Aren't mine always?) but does anybody know why we get itches on our bodies? I've had an itchy toe for an hour now and it's starting to really P me off.
Itching, also known as pruritus, starts with some kind of external stimuli, including bugs, dust, clothing fibers and hair. Like tickling, itching is a built-in defense mechanism that alerts your body to the potential of being harmed. In this case, it might be the potential of being bit by a bug.

Itching is most commonly caused by dry skin, skin irritation, insect bites, allergic reactions, and even bad hygiene. Be thankful that you have fingers to relieve your itch in the most irritable places, unlike most animals. Imagine being a fish. Yes, fish itch too. Say that ten times fast.
Try resisting an itch. It's harder than it may seem. Mind of matter, right?
