I am considering purchasing Starcraft 2 and my question to everyone else is basically is it worth it...
Is the online all its cracked up to be?
And what kind of gametypes are there and stuff?

Opinions / Suggestions are appreciated!

My friend bought Sc2 and he shares it with me, and if you are competitive and enjoy RTS (I played a lot of Ladder WC2 and Wc3 TFT, also C&C Generals and Red Alert 2) then get it for the ladder. If you enjoy custom maps get Warcraft 3 or Sc2. Although WC3 is dying, imo from all the hosting bots.

Sc2 is a very creative game in both the ladder matches & custom games. For instance, one map is like an all out free for all where you get resources stupidly fast and have to dominate them before they dominate you. A huge clusterfuck of units on the map as you can imagine. That's swayed more to modified ladder (By the way, ladder means ranked. Just basic, 1v1, 2v2, etc).

Another favorite of mine are their zombie survival maps. Quite hard and fun.

They have a huge variety in the custom map part of it. Zombie survival, tower defense, merchant+fighter, tug-of-war, DOTA style (If you played wc3, hon, LoL, bloodline champions, etc), and more. Hell, someone is even making an MMO inside of the starcraft 2 map editor (And ironically naming it World of Starcraft XD Link HERE)

Overall, it is a fun game if you enjoy random custom maps or competitive (And I MEAN competitive, fucking Korea owns Starcraft) traditional RTS games.

Tl;dr, i'd get it. or get a friend to buy it for you. Either way the online is worth it, plus the single player, although short, is actually offers quite the immersion and a good story. Although hardcore SC/BW fans would say its crap, I still loved it.

I played a whole lot of WC3 and Original starcraft as well.
Customs on Warcraft 3 I loved with a passions, as well as Starcraft, however I feel like Starcraft 1 and Starcraft 2 are extremely similar and if I am already bored with SC1, would I get bored of SC2 quickly?

The custom map scene on sc2 is nowhere near where the wc3 one was at it's peak. But sc2 is still brand new-ish. Give it time.
Sc1 custom maps were limited by their map editor. The sc2 editor is making an MMO... just consider that when wondering how far the game has come.
One small example is how i remember wc3 used save codes, you'd type -save and write down a code. In Sc2 it has a memory bank. Any game that uses any type of save mechanic, uses it automatically without typing -save and automatically stores it.

I haven't gotten bored of Sc2 yet and its been a few weeks, and theres quite a few maps (And an even better map lister-thingy) that makes it hard to miss even brand new games.

I don't think you'd get bored easily.

I still think SC2 is much much more limited than WC3 ever was, basically if you could think it you could make it with WC3, I loved the huge variety of customs it had available.

You've never touched the map editor in SC2 yet you're making assumptions. You are a failed breed of human

How would you know if I have used the map editor or not?
You sir are making assumptions, I happen to have several friends who have SC2

Of course you do. That's why you decided to come to a random forum to ask when you have access to make the decision yourself. Herp derp.

Fire. Die in one.

All you have done is say I fail as a human or I am stupid or troll me or say herp derp.
Seriously either don't be such a prick or fuck off, I am tired of it.
