Invite Only Forum?

What do you guys think about an invite only forum? One where you need a registration code sent by your friends in order to join? And then once you join you can invite your friends.

Would anyone like anything like that?

Invite only forums tend to go stale a lot quicker.

Think about this.
1) User wastes his invites
2) The users who sign up under his invite never use there invites
3) Original user becomes inactive as well

Bam just lost 4 potential invites and activity.

If you have the right, unique niche and have lots of incentives then this can work.
