I killed my neighbors cat 3 days ago...

so I was in my backyard and I was hitting off a t into a net, just listening to music passing time before my game and I was like in the zone just like hit, ball, hit, ball, hit, ball then I hit one up over the fucking net and it dinked the cat in the head and at first I thought he was ok, but he didn't get up so I went over to it and poked it (bleeding from his head) and nothing happened so I put it in a garbage bag and threw it over the fence. (in my backyard overt the fence there is a flood drain). The neighbors are convinced the cat ran away (it was fairly young) and their 8 year old daughter is also convinced, I feel like shit but i cant tell them man, did i do the right thing? what do you guys think? :-(


EDIT I TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED : I maned up and told them after these posts and consulting my parents, I knocked on there door and asked if the daughter could hear us and if we could talk in private, we sat down on the porch and I told them what happened they took it pretty well and said they're not gonna tell their daughter which made me feel better, I didnt tell them I put it in the ditch though as that was really fucked up and i feel bad about it but yeah, this whole situation sucked.

Do the right thing. They shouldnt be left in mystery. I think they should know what happened, explain the situation and how it was an accident and hope they understand.

Tell your neighbors what really happened. It's up to them to tell their daughter what happened to the cat.

You have balls if you tell them. I'd be scared shitless to be honest. More so because now time has passed since it happened so now they know you originally thought about not telling them. I don't know man, you're gonna have to do what you feel will settle best with your head but if it was me i don't think i could bring myself to do it. Just being honest.

tell them the truth but minimize happiness.
withhold the truth from them and maximize happiness.

dont be a fucking dick, go tell them what happened and say sorry. also throwing it into the drainage was a dick move.

So let me get this straight, you threw a fucking live cat in the garbage? Just because of bleeding? Or was it completely gone, maybe just knocked out? I would have brought it to the animal hospital if possible.

I don't know what gave you the idea to put it in a garbage bag. You should've told them as soon as it died. If you still feel guilty just tell your neighbors the truth and that's it. Consequences will vary. Good luck OP.

I'm guessing it was a widely loved family cat, you should do the right thing and just tell them what happened. You'll feel better.

Throwing it in a garbage bag then in the drain was a bad choice, you should've told them what happened straight away. But regardless, tell them anyway, so they can have closure or whatever.
