How to make room for PMs?

I just deleted a lot of messages from: Inbox& Sent. It still says I have used 84% of PM space, do I have to upgrade to get more space or is there any way I can make it empty again?

Yes, go to trash, and empty your trash.

Although when your upgraded you pretty much never run out of space.
