Tired of the bland boring bright look of Minecraft? Want it to be more realistic looking? Darker? Perhaps a higher resolution look? Then look no further for today, you will learn about the wonders of texture packs in Minecraft.
There are texture packs available for the Creative version of Minecraft and the Survival version; with Survival having the most packs available. To get started, choose a texture pack you want to install and download it. To install the pack, you must have started Minecraft at least once in either the browser or in the downloadable client. I grab my texture packs from the Official Minecraft Mapping and Moding forum.

[*]Navigate to your C:\document and settings\[UserName]Application Data\.minecraft\bin in Windows XP or C:\Users\[UserName]AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin in Windows 7/Vista.
[*]Open minecraft.jar using your zip program. I use Winrar.
[*]Open up the downloaded texture pack zip.
[*]Move the files from the texture pack zip over to the minecraft.jar zip. If it asks you if you want to overwrite the files in minecraft.jar, click OK.
[*]Close the zip.
[*]Play the game.
