How can I CHECK if a XBL code works WITHOUT redeeming it?

Go on chat support, or even on xbox itself you can type it in and I'm fairly sure it states what it is and asks if you'd like to redeem it before it makes itself an active subscription or whatever.

@Patch no, not the xbox.com redeem page, the xbox console. the xbox 360 at least. Not sure about the one as I rarely use it.

Before you redeem it, it will ask for a confirmation.
 
Just type in the code and don't confirm usage, if the code is fake it'll say so.
