hamster, guinea pig, rat!?

Well i've really wanted a small pet for a long time and i finally have time and money to take care of it. I have a local Petco that carries almost all the usual ones and was wonder, what do you guys thing i should get?

don't suggest rats or mice because my girlfriend has mice and i find them disgusting.

Already have a pug, don't want any more dogs. Hate cats.
 

Change the pipes like once a week, but only slightly. I thinks it knows the way, runs down the route and BAM, hits it's head

No, Actually, ferrets are illegal in several other areas including Hawaii; Washington, DC; Dallas, Ft. Worth, Beaumont, and various other cities in TX; Bloomington and Burnsville, MN; Tulsa, OK; and Columbus, OH. London, York, and East York, Ontario, Canada and Puerto Rico as well.

Although ferrets aren't actually illegal in New York City or Minneapolis, MN, they are not welcomed and may be confiscated or ticketed. Similarly, although it's legal to own ferrets in South Carolina, it's not legal to sell them there, and the state is known to be pretty ferret-unfriendly.

Many military bases ban ferrets. It seems to be at the discretion of the base commander.

You can find out about your town by calling the local Wildlife Department or Fish and Game Department, the humane society, or local vets.

The majority of reason ferrets were banned include: 1.)Ferrets are seen as wild animals 2.)Ferrets pose a serious rabies danger although studies have indicated that it's very hard for a ferret to catch rabies. If one does, it dies very quickly. 3.)The idea that escaped pets will form feral packs and threaten livestock or native wildlife.

If you want more information on ferrets, especially the laws and regulations for your county and/or state, you can go to ferretcentral.org. Keep in mind that this site is ferret friendly so you may also want to talk with you local vet, Fish and Game authorities before purchasing!
