Gamertag in limbo?

My friend tried to take one of his old gamertags to a new account the other day. It was nothing special but he liked it because he had it for awhile. So he tried changing it to a new account, and as soon as he changed it he wasn't able to take it again. People are saying his gamertag is in limbo right now. How long does limbo usually take to release the gamertag again? Like I said it wasn't a og or a semi he just wanted his old account gt, so no one turbod it or spaced it out from him, if someone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The same thing happened to my friend yesterday. This has been happening on the regular, and I'm not sure why. You just have to wait to see if it ever becomes available.
