In Grand Rapids, Michigan having weed on you is decriminalized, therefore a fine is exactly $25 for being caught with some. No big deal at all xD

Hell yeah, haha. I found that out the hard way though when I drove over there. Good thing I wasn't driving with a huge amount - it says that if it's over 2.5 ounces then the decriminalization is cancelled on their part. lol.

Yes, may be true, but 2.5 ounces is quite a lot of pot to be carrying at one time, especially for personal use.

Again, the $25 charge was more punishment than he deserved. He didn't break a law, they did. They should be paying him for invading his privacy. This is toward you as well, @arrest .

In all honesty, OP, I'd pursue it, have them defend why they think they're allowed to do this.

You really could argue both ways. All I'm trying to say is, the school administration is at fault for invading his privacy, but also he is at fault for coming to school high. School is supposed to be a drug free zone, but we all know it isn't and kids smoke in the bathrooms and before school and after school on campus.

He didn't say he was high. He said he tested positive. Unless he was in possession of anything there shouldn't have been consequence.

Of course you should read into public and local laws of his state/city/school for the direct rules/parameters for this, however I feel as if you are not on probation, in possession, or conspiracy of the drug you should not and cannot get prosecuted for it. Now if the school demanded $25 from him without a law saying that he has to, then that's straight up extortion and the school can be prosecuted for that.

@"Color" is correct about the no consequences, and @"Arrest" you're sort of right on the privacy part, however like I said, he's on school property, therefore if the law states that while on school property you cannot fail a drug test, then the school is indeed within the law and not invading privacy by charging him a fine.

But...if the school randomly took him out and demanded for a random drug test, that might be stretching the rules/law a bit. But like I said, it ultimately is up to the local laws and rules of that school/city/state.

I don't know if this is the same situation but there was a Drug bust at my old high school. They brought in like 9 k-9s and some cops but this girl that was sitting next to me had 1.5 in her purse and I wanted to snitch so bad bad because she (C)ouldn't. (U)nderstand. (N)ormal. (T)hinking. I didnt snitch though I wanted to see a German Shepard f**k her up lol. But they ended up finding Weed, shotgun, .45 Caliber

I went to an Alternative High School a while back, and they had random drug busts too, where dogs and cops would come in and search lockers, classrooms, bags, everything. They usually only found pills like Vyvanse, Adderall etc. People were smart enough to leave weed at home.

Random drug testing in schools is strictly limited to those who participate in extracurricular activities.

They had breathalyzers at a dance, and I didn't know about this and I blew into they thing and I was drunk af, they literally told me "It be best for me leave before cops get involved".

You're a very lucky man since you only had to pay $25. Honestly if a school made me pay a fine because I smoke my weed I will smack the shit out of them before handing them the money. I also might take a poop on there forehead so that the fine is something worth paying for. Thats just me
