you could size down when you get tired of them or you can be like me and have second holes. I have my second holes gauged as well though.
 
dont do it, i gauged my ears to 7/8th of a inch and now that i dont want it any more they wont close ever, so now i just have to live with big holes in my ears

They should close just not fully. My friend went to 1 inch and 1/8 and hes down to 0s now and its only been like a year.
