Felon said:It would be better if it was a little bit wider but that will definitely be sufficient to keep the snake the rest of its life. Make sure to reasearch all about the snake and to get all the things needed!
Fed said:Yeah I wish it were at least 2 feet wideIf that is just barely good for a corn snake then I guess I 100% can't get a ball python instead. :'(
Felon said:Yea especially for a ball python wider will be better. Corn snakes are really good snakes too, especially if it's your first one. Then later you can get a ball python once you have gotten more expirience handling and caring for snakes since ball pythons are a little bit more difficult.
Fed said:Yeah it's my first snake.
Can you recommend some supplies I may need?

Felon said:What do you have at the moment? I will tell you if that is sufficient and if you're missing anything important.
Anaheim said:A shit load of money over time for food, a constant supply of water, heating lamp...
Fed said:I have a rock designed water bowl and that wood branch in the picture. Thats about it.
Actually, buying food for a corn snake is very cheap.
Anaheim said:I was thinking of a ball python. My friend had to buy a shit ton of mice and he said it stacked up so I just wanted to post. Sorry about that buddy. Didn't realize how small a corn snake was so small! xD
Fed said:Even a ball python doesn't need much food. 1 mouse per week is good.

Yeah I know I need a cave for the snake to hide in. They are shy snakes. I know I need to make sure the temperature is perfect. For the floor, I am going to use pine chips. Is that ok?Felon said:You definitely will need a heat mat and a thermometer for it since you will have to keep it at a specific heat. There are some heat mats and thermometers that control the temperature it will heat. There will need a hot side where the heat mat will be and a cool side. DONT BUY A HEAT ROCK! Make sure the bowl will be enough for the snake to soak in. You will need a heat lamp. You will also need a humidity gauge. For the bedding it is reccomended using shredded aspen bedding. You will also need a place for the snake to hide in. A rock decoration (good for when shedding). A sphagnum moss hiding place is also really good for when the snake is shedding. Make sure to always have a thermometer and be aware of the temperature on each side. RESEARCH A LOT ABOUT THE SNAKE for it to live a long and happy life

Felon said:Absolutely don't use pine chips!!!!! The resins in the pine is extremely toxic to the snakes nervous system, this goes for all reptiles too. The snake will become spactic and uncontrollable if exposed for a long time your snake will not survive. Do not use pine chips.
Fed said:So the best thing to use it shredded aspen bedding?
Felon said:Yes that is the safest and cheapest bedding and is the reccomended one to use. The corn snakes seem to like it too as they dig themselves under it and stay snuggled there.
Fed said:75-85 F is a good temperature to have at all times?
Fed said:Thanks for all the help @"Felon"! I will be sure to show pictures once everything is setup and maybe a video of my snakes first dinner.
