Aight. So a couple weeks ago, I got this virus called "Blaster Worm" that didn't allow me to open anything. And everything was infected. I asked my computer technician, and he said it is caused by multiple downloads of java-related stuff. I do play Runescape Private Servers, so how could I prevent this Worm from infecting me once more? It sucked being home on Winter Break, with the season over and my internet infected by some annoing virus.

I would suggest getting a few good anti-virus programs. I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and AVG. AVG has a free version, but I have a paid version. MBAM is free. I would also suggest SuperAntiSpyware, which has a free version also, I believe.
I use AVG Free Edition 2011. Would that help? Cause i'm not sure AVG is the best Anti-Virus software.

Go torrent a good AV. Nod32 was #1 for atleast 3 years running, beat last year by Vipre AV. Here, i'll even do one better and give you a link to a good DL of it:

The link I provided is safe. Over 50 comments there, and the only things anyone ever whines about is the noobs who complain the keygen is a trojan (WHich if you knew anything about AV's, they detect the signature as something threatening to them or other products and count them as that)

Well basically you have to look at it logically. When something has funding behind it, they can afford to hire more programmers. They can afford to regularly update their virus definitions (Finding new viruses), etc.
Money runs everything. Something given away for free usually can't keep up because it doesn't have the funding to compete. Sure it has virus definitions, but they're outdated and not as useful as paid versions.
I'm not saying all freebies are bad. Spybot Search & Destroy is a great example of free software, but never stand alone. It's a great spyware and malware detector, but because it's free you don't want to use it alone. I used to use it with Ad-Aware: SE-Personal. Something like that. AVs are a bit different though as they can conflict with eachother if both ran together. That's why it's either go big or go home when it comes to AVs.
ANother really good example of freeware software is Zone Alarm's free firewall. The reason this is exceptional outside of the rule of "can't keep up if not funded" Is because they sell paid products. Their main juicy firewall costs a shitload, so they're able to cut off a few features and give away a lighter, not-as-good version.
Basically, TL;DR: Most free products (Company made, not user made) are shit, not because they're bad themselves, but because the gap between them and programs that have funded dev. teams is too great when you can turn around and torrent the better stuff.

I don't get how you guys can get so easily infected... Do you even scan everything you download? I learned when I got a virus like when I was 11.
That's because it's the best at not really doing anything (it bothers you less than other A/Vs).
