I do astronomy, a black hole can be caused by a ton of stuff. Pretty much 90% of them occur from dwarf star's imploding. It's really a great topic to study, I don't go into the maths side of it much though.

1.78 is an approximate, because all your numbers are rounded down to significant digits. Basically you've applied a simple physics equation that can be found in a reference table, and chugged and plugged in some numbers.

Yep, which is why I did say that the number I gave for the speed of light was approximate. Meant to say "about" on the diameter but forgot. Also, why are you trying to call me out or something? I can derive the equations for you. I just figured no one wanted to see that? I was simply trying to share a little bit of fun with math to figure out something kind of interesting.
EDIT:
To maybe satisfy your thirst for knowledge.
By the Conservation of Mass/Energy E1=E2
k1 + UG1 = K2 + UG2
1/2*m*v_esc^2 - G*M_E*m/R_E = 1/2*m*v_2^2 - G*M_E*m/r_2
Because the final velocity (v_2) isn't needed since it would be out of the gravitational pull of Earth that can = 0. Also, G*M_E*m/r_2 = 0 because of what I just said; gravitational pull would be = 0. And mass on the left side can also be crossed out as it doesn't matter.
So that gives us:
1/2*_esc^2 = G*M_E/R_E
v_esc^2 = 2*G*M_E/R_E
v_esc = (2*G*M_E/R_E)^(1/2)
That is how we derive the formula to find escape velocity.
If you want a picture of my notes plus the diagram I drew to go along with this, it wouldn't do you much good. I have horrible hand writing. lol
I have actually watched one of his videos before, but didn't realize it until I recognized the guy. Think it was about colors. He showed a lemon and said that I wasn't seeing real yellow, that it was a fake yellow and that the computer is tricking my eyes. Was very interesting.
