Are social networking sites good for our society?

I argue with my co-worker all the time about facebook, twitter, and any other social networking site out there. He says that networks like facebook and twitter or any other site are contributing to our society in a negative way. I say he is crazy and that these sites are so much fun and I get to know great people on the way... do you think social networking sites are a good or not good for our society?
 
Social networking sites are fine as long as you don't depend so much on it. Me, I just use it to communicate with relatives and friends but I don't give so much information on line. You have to think that so many people can see it and not all of them are friends.
 
People are using it limitless these days, which is definitely not a good thing. Most of the stuff there is "SHIT" e.g. stupid applications, spam, bots, etc
People are using it in wrong way and you never know you have been stalked by someone. Its turning horrible day by day.
 
the good thing about social networking site is we can communicate easily with our friends relatives at a place & also we can share lots of things.

i think social networking sites not bad idea.......
but it is ground reality
some bad use
 
In my opinion it's okay to be on Social networkings sites if you dont are a geek and are sitting example on your facebook 24/7.
But it's not that nessecary facebook example but it's can be good in some situations. Example if it's an party, they can just create an event and all will see it's an party instead of calling everybody which takes a long time.
