To continuously cover the server costs that is hosting Rune Gear, we need donations. There are multiple ways to pay for the server and cover the financial needs.

We can either:
  • Receive financial support from members
  • Keep taking out of my personal funds for a non-profit project
  • Place 6 ads around the forum
I have stayed away from the last option for the last 3 months since I want Rune Gear to be the best for all my members and visitors, but without money, there will be no Rune Gear whatsoever.

By placing ads I can generate the revenue to keep up Rune Gear, but it's a burden for members. So I'm just simply asking if anyone would like to donate to please click here. Follow the instructions correctly please.

Note: Donations are non refundable. The minimum amount to donate is $10, but you can purchase RG Elite for $5.

Rune Gear appreciates all donations very much. Donations allow the server to stay up with outstanding speeds as well as the expansion of Rune Gear. All donations are acknowledged respectively with rewards and benefits.

Thank you.

I don't think a few ads will draw members away. I wouldn't mind them as long as the content in the forum stays the same!

When I first thought of Rune Gear, I intended the forum to be as user friendly as possible. With attacks, uptime and increase in traffic, the server costs have risen. I can cover a lot of it, but the fact is that not every month I can.

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

Yeah, The Elite, I suggest we throw up a few ads here and there. If they are successful, then they won't even have to be up full time, only when needed.
Member's won't be drawn away, ads are everywhere nowadays and I'm pretty sure once reading this more will understand why.

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

I think you're gonna have to, because until RG gets going again, you aren't gonna get money from nothing.

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

I'll try to get some more money, been low lately because of Christmas and my Sisters birthday in January.

I'm sure a few ads won't do us any harm.

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

I agree with everyone. Ads are the way to go.

I might sell something in order to earn some money but because of Christmas and my birthday in a month, it's kinda hard saving money especially with my sisters (2), mum and dad both being born in February meaning I have to save even more money for them

I should be able to get $10 though soon enough.

Some ads will do though. I don't think they will hurt + you could ask members to click them so you could earn some extra revenue.

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

Don't worry, Deja. I'm selling my lvl 104 RS acc for 50USD, I'll pay for next month, hold a contest for RG Elite, and buy myself something =), Waiting for the person to get on.

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

I don't get why people constantly ask people for money and donations, why do people start sites if they can't afford to run them? I started ryan1918.com in 2001 and I've paid for the site the entire time, starting with a shared account, and moving straight to a dedicated server, and getting faster servers and better connections over the years, I was paying out of my pocket the entire time, up to hundreds of dollars a month, back than I got some donations but I never asked for them..

I just don't think it's right to keep asking members to pay for a site your running and your doing, a site like this can't cost more than $10 a month to run, even with a vps you can get $10 vps accounts, I feel like if you can't afford to pay for the site, shut it down, or put up ads instead of keep asking members to pay for something your running..

Don't take it offensively or anything, I just don't like anyone that does this, you have to remember the most you ask for money, the more your members are going to think your greedy and that's all your in for is making money instead of actually paying for the site.

You are in no place to comment about my actions considering it's my website, not yours. I'm actually hosting my website for $10 more per month than you charged me. Let me just tell you that it was much better. If you think I can't afford to pay for the website then that clearly shows you don't know what's happening. I'd appreciate it if you didn't throw accusations.

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

Advertisements won't hurt your traffic. I have several websites of my own and I can tell you from experience that ads will only worsen your situation if you have a site that is renown for its simplicity. For instance, Google. Users adore Google for it's simplicity. It's easy and clear to browse. RG is a MyBB based web-forum. There's no simplicity. There's tools, gadgets, profiles, sections, etc. Sponsorships, advertisements as well as partnerships won't stun your traffic. Take my word for it.

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

I'm fine with an add here and there.

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

I get paid on the 27th. Depending on that check, I'll donate some. I would not mind seeing ads. To also increase revenue make the ads hidden from Elite members.

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

Things you can do.... We dont mind not having competions for RSGP and Dollars... what if you hold Competitions for Mod or Awards... this way you wont loose out on money...
we really dont mind adds... almost all sites have adds, ( HF has adds and i know you spent alot of time there in the old days..) Ads can be hiden from Rg Elite and above, which would also cause more people to buy rg elite... if you try and make the trading safer by issuing OMM's you could provide a service charge bringing more Trades and Alittle more money for yourself... OMM's could be Moderators and Staff...

Just my suggestions.. You could also Set up a Rsps for Runegear and collect some revenue from that as people like to donate on Rsps's, you could even start a Minecraft Server for Runegear...

Well thanks if you read it just my ideas.. (most are probably stupid)

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

You should make the ads come up for non RG elite, like what HF does for non l33t and ub3rs

RE: Read To Keep Rune Gear Alive

Go ahead and add ads. They aren't a distraction unless they are blinking a ton. Then they give you seizures.
