Well, last night I was out for 4 hours, and I come back home to find Rune Gear running fine. I go to relax after a long day, and I check RG to find it down. I was extremely tired since I had worked on RG for around 8 or so hours just that day to keep it running fine. I was half asleep but I stayed up for another hour and a half just working on RG. The DoS was so large and distributed, that after half an hour my host still couldn't manage it.
I decide to pop on some Cloudflare to manage some of the hits since I had to sleep. I wake up to find Jobangco as our webpage. Turns out the DNS I was given was incorrect, so we were showing another website under the IP. We were not hacked.
I don't understand why members complain if we have downtime, yes I do know that, we're an extremely fast growing forum with quite a lot of traffic, yet the amount of donations received are minimal. I can't mainly rely on advertisements to pay for the RG servers, since if so, I'll be taking out of my pocket which I do not want to do.
We're not extremely low on funds, but I do believe that what we currently have can be much better spent on other investments, such as features, better designs, content, traffic and more, other than hardware that will withstand these (D)DoS attacks.
