As of June 6, 2012, Jagex have released another cosmetic item:the fish mask. Valued at 550,000 coins and obtained from the squeal of fortune, this item will only be available as an uncommon reward for a week. After a week, the item will become a rare reward. The street price of a fish mask is currently 4,000,000 coins. After the summer, one will no longer be able to get their hands on this item unless they trade with another player.

Everyone knows the story with discontinued items. The item start off cheap, and ends up sky-rocketing in price. Santa hats, for example, were 5,000 coins in 2002, and now in 2012, they're valued at 90,000,000 coins. What're your thoughts and opinions with regard to this item? Do you think its price will eventually reach a price similar to the other discontinued items or do you think this is a scheme that merchants are using to exploit the market?

well the santa hat is obviously just form the fact that 1gp has gone down in value. Back in 2002, 5k gp was alot.
but yeah, people who get their hands on one of these are lucky.
