America's Got Talent tried faking an amazing basketball shot.

I'm honestly confused as to what happened in the video.. someone please explain this to me.

The producers at AGT were getting Nick Cannon to throw an imaginary basketball behind his head, toward the hoop. He wanted the crowd to fake cheer/applaud him after he did so that the editors could put in a CGI basketball later.
