Okay so I have lately made a decision regarding my job, and my whole family is not even supporting me. I need your guys' opinion, so here goes nothing.
I would like to start by telling you that I am a 17 year old living in an upper middle-class home. I make around $200 a week with currency exchanging and some other things online, without my job. I work at a catering company and essentially my job is to set up for the weddings and to be a server during the wedding. Generally, weddings go from around 3-11 o'clock, and I receive around $11 an hour. The pay and the rate is pretty good for a kid my age obviously, but recently there has been some drama. Pretty much job requires us to sign up for events in advance, and we also can get requested. Over a month ago, I was requested to work as a Waitstaff (server) during the wedding so I of course accept the position. Now, a week before the wedding, they decided to move me to utility at the wedding. Utility is essentially the dishwasher and the bitch of the job. Seeing this, I certainly did not like that I was swapped for absolutely no reason, so I emailed my boss. My boss emailed me back and told me that there are servers with "seniority" who she just couldn't swap, so she decided to move me to the job. She then told me that she could take me off completely for the night if I would prefer that, so I told her that I would in fact rather take the night off. Here's the kicker though, my girlfriend is related to the boss, but nobody knows that. My girlfriend signed up as waitstaff LAST NIGHT because she texted her aunt and asked. I have worked more events and longer than my girlfriend, but she apparently has seniority over me.
Long story short, I do NOT need the money at all, and I am living more than sufficiently for a kid my age. Was I in the wrong for telling my manager to just take me off the night instead of moving me to utility? (If they do not have enough workers, they will call other companies to help them).
Note: I am still fully employed by the company, my parents are just PISSED that I actually told my boss to take me off of the night.
