a.Write a formula that relates temperature t in degrees Fahrenheit at altitude h (in thousands of feet) and a ground temperature of 65ºF. State any restrictions on h.
b.Find the temperature at 11,000 ft above Earth’s surface.

Formula: 65 - 5.5(h / 1,000) = t

H is the height given, t is the answer.

h=11,000

so

65 - 5.5(11,000 / 1,000) = t

65 - 5.5(11) = t

65 - 60.5 = t

4.5 = t

Your answer is: The temperature at 11,000 feet above the earths surface is 4.5ºF
