Destiny: Bungie's Brave New Worlds
Our solar system is the playground of Bungie's new universe, Destiny.
Centuries from now, human civilization has spread far beyond the confines of Earth, stretching outward to the Moon, Mars, Venus, the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn. Mankind's Golden Age comes to an end when an unexplained cataclysmic event all but eradicates our species.
Destiny is a Part First-Person Shooter, Part Open-World Sandbox And Part Persistent Universe. Meaning players will grow and customize their characters with new armor, clothing, weapons, vehicles and spacecraft, items that players will acquire and equip, objects that flesh out the lore of Destiny's 10-year narrative arc.
The Seven Major Design Pillars of Destiny's design:
• A world players want to be in.
• A bunch of fun things to do.
• Rewards players care about.
• A new experience every night.
• Shared with other people.
• Enjoyable by all skill levels.
• Enjoyable by the tired, impatient and distracted.
In conclusion, Pete Parsons, COO of Bungie, says he looks forward to "blowing peoples' minds" with Destiny.
Google to Open Retail Stores by the end of the Year
An extremely reliable source has confirmed to us that Google is in the process of building stand-alone retail stores in the U.S. and hopes to have the first flagship Google Stores open for the holidays in major metropolitan areas.
The mission of the stores is to get new Google Nexus, Chrome, and especially upcoming products into the hands of prospective customers.
My understanding is that these new stores will operate independently and make direct sales to customers from Google like the Nexus online store does currently. It might also make sense for Google to sell its apparel and other Google-branded merchandise in these stores as well, but that’s speculation on my part.
The decision to open stores, I’m told, came when drawing up plans to take the Google Glass to the public. The leadership thought consumers would need to try Google Glass first hand to make a purchase. Without being able to use them first hand, few non-techies would be interested in buying Google’s glasses (which will retail from between $500 to $1,000). From there, the decision to sell other Google-branded products made sense.
Has the Transparent Smartphone Finally Arrived?
When will we see a transparent smartphone? It's a question that's been circulating for years, thanks to films like Minority Report and Iron Man 2 that sparked dreams of a diaphanous mobile future, and more than a decade later, it's one that's still without an answer.
Now, Taiwan-based Polytron Technologies is trying to revive the dream, with a transparent multi-touch display that it's begun marketing to OEMs.
They also stated that "It will happen near the end of 2013. Trust me."
At this point, however, the display is still very much in development. The prototype features no software or operating system.
Another point of interest is that, The company plans to announce a prototype transparent tablet within the "next couple of weeks."
PS4 Release Date, News and Features
Hardware Specs:
Processor Power (CPU):
• AMD CPU and GPU
• AMD processor based on its forthcoming Jaguar CPU architecture. The chip packs eight cores but is clocked at a measly 1.6GHz.
The CPU is definitely an upgrade from the PS3's, but it is a mediocre chip, in this modern age.
Graphics Power (GPU):
• Radeon GPU with 18 GCN units (18 processing clusters, each packing up to 64 cores).
While this type of GPU most definitely surpasses the PS3's, it still has no match to the latest gaming PCs.
Memory (RAM):
• Dev Kit's RAM = 4GB
• Supposedly the retail's ram will sport 8GB of the super-fast GDDR5 variety.
4K Capable:
4K means Ultra HD (UHD), which are TV's with a stunning 3840 x 2160 resolution. The verdict of this is, The PS4 will almost certainly be able to exude some kind of Ultra HD output.
News:
PS4 Release Date:
• PS4 reveal in New York on 20th February.
• Highly likely to be Christmas 2013 for Japan and North America.
• we'd be very surprised if the UK and Europe get their PS4 release before Jan/Feb 2014.
The Price:
• Price point around $400.
• Possibly £299 in the UK.
Backwards compatibility:
• Rumors suggests that the PS4 will completely ignore the possibility of backwards compatibility.
Second-hand games:
• More rumors suggest that Sony is going in the same direction as Microsoft in that it wants to kill off the second hand games market.
• PS4 games might be tied to your Sony Entertainment Network account and will thus then have no resale value.
The PS4 controller:
• Rumor has it that the PS4's control pad will be similar in shape and size to the current DualShock 3 pad, only with a Vita-like touch-sensitive surface where the Select/Start/Analogue buttons currently reside.
• More than likely will sport a PlayStation Move-compatible feature.
A Meteor and Asteroid
Friday was a particularly uncommon day, astronomically speaking. Even as scientists were wheelwork up to witness an asteroid's nearest ever approach to Earth in recorded history, a sizeable meteor exploded over Russia, inflicting thousands of injuries and major injury to buildings. Over 1,000 were injured - including 200 children - have been reported by shockwaves of the asteroid.
The asteroid, named DA14, came inside 17,000 miles approximately, as shut as a telecommunication satellite in celestial orbit. DA14 is sort of to a small degree smaller than YU55, the asteroid that passed Earth in November 2011, however DA14 came over ten times nearer.
These 2 rare events occurred a similar day.
Pope Benedict resigns
Pope Benedict XVI will resign on February 28.
The Pope has resigned as the Catholic leader because of his age. The Pope is 85 and will turn 86 on April the 16th. Pope Benedict XVI was elected pope back on April the 19th of 2005. Benedict, the 265th pope, is that the sixth German to function pope and therefore the 1st since the eleventh century.
Danica Patrick, first woman to win the Pole Position at the Daytona 500
One year ago, Danica Patrick won the pole at Daytona for the lesser circuit Nationwide Series. Today, Danica Patrick, won the pole at NASCAR's most prestigious race — scheduled next Sunday, February 24 at 1:00 p.m. — with a lap of 196.434 mph.
Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela, returns
Hugo Chavez, the President of Venezuela, has returned to Cuba on Monday. He was in Cuba to receive cancer treatment, but is now back. Chavez posted on his official Twitter account: "We come back to the country of Venezuela," and also this - "Thank God! Thank you dear people! Here we continue the treatment."
The Vice President, Nicolas Maduro, says that the President will be returned to Venezuela at 2:30 am local time on Monday, February 18th.
I was trying to write about more interesting news, but nothing really was interesting except the asteroid/meteor over Russia that recently sparked up the news. I didn't really fill comfortable doing the Danica Patrick one, but it's currently big news here in the US.
