New members' welcoming thread?

I think we should have a sticky for new members that they should read. A lot of people act poorly or quit because they don't know what to do after joining a new forum. They have no idea about what we do here and what we expect. The only thing I see to guide new members are the introduction guides and the rules. Wouldn't it be nice if we can have a thread that tells people about our forum? If you want me to, I can probably write one up, but I think Glen should do it or some other admin to give it more authority and to show that admins actually care on this forum.

because there is a section for it.

new members like to make new threads. it would be harder for them to navigate to a sticky.

and it makes it more generic and less special.

and a whole bunch of other reasons too.

I think I might have been confusing. Let me attempt to clarify.
This isn't trying to replace an introductory thread, this is just a thread with information about the forum. I'll give you an example from a forum I used to go on (and sometimes still do). http://forums.asdf.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7465

Support the idea.
A quick introduction about the forum and what would be expected would be nice. It will also make new people feel more comfortable, I'll help writing it if I'm allowed to.

We get like 2 new members a month...

Actually we get a good amount. But many of them don't post often, or just spam 20 posts real quick for dumps. The ones that start out good end up disappearing. I hope that they come back soon...

And if that doesn't work, we can just make it so new members can join. You would need an invitation from a current member to get in. Lol

Something like this was already suggested, and god knows shit never gets done here.
 
Since Glen seems to take no interest, I will try to find the plugin to make new users read a thread, but I doubt it is needed because the extremely low active new users per month.
