Yeah, you can. Windows 10 has the same system files as Windows 7 or 8.

it was supposed to be midnight eastern time, but it's 12:30 and still haven't been able to upgrade yet. i have mine reserved too.

Microsoft announced that everybody can upgrade for free, even if you are using pirated version.

This is the official release, not the beta anymore. ofcourse they're still going to be minor bugs but not as many that can damage your computer.
