CUPS on linux

hi my sis is runing linux and has "stolen" my printer but cant get it working and i found a program called CUPS but it says you have to compile it by yourself so i was wondering if anyone knows of a better way to do it or can help me compile/install it since i havent dabled in C C++ for a while
